  1. Hayward colorlogic 2.5 pool light stopped working after pool was 1.5 years old. One day it started strobe flashing very rapidly. Now, when it is turned on it flashes for a fraction of a second and then goes out. Warranty on it is one year only and now am having to get it fixed on my own dime. Very expensive for it to stop working like this when Hayward boasts on their website “ColorLogic provides unmatched performance and noise- and service-free operation” and “The life expectancy for a Colorlogic light is 50,000 hours. The light will perform for over 10,000 hours without any noticeable loss of brightness.” Not true in my case. Not true, at all. Buyer beware!

    • My Colorlogic light also failed and began flashing like a strobe after 3 years service. Did you find a repair service to fix yours? Hayward rep advised me that they do not perform repairs on Colorlogic Lights.

  2. My Colorlogic pool light failed after 3 years seasonal service (approx 300-400 hours usage) when it began flashing like a strobe instead of producing steady light. When I called Hayward, the service rep advised that the “mother board” had probably gone bad. Guess what….Hayward does not offer a repair service on these lights…their solution: replace it with a new one!

  3. My Hayward Colorlogic LED is also out after less than three years of very light service. no fix available and $500 min. to replace. Not a happy Hayward customer…

  4. Our Hayward colorlogic pool light failed after 2 years and less than 300 hours of service.
    Cost to replace is $500+
It was a very expensive mistake

  5. One of two Hayward Color Logics failed on me too. Same deal… flashing like a strobe only.

So much for long life LED.

My mothers pool lights are 20+ years old. Never a problem.

  6. Same here. Two year old pool with Hayward Color Logics [1 in pool and 1 in spa]and the spa fixture is flickering and tripping the GFI. Pool tech came out today and determined the spa Color Logic is bad. So much for long life LED lamps when the motherboard goes out before they do. I will be replacing with anything but Hayward!

  7. My pool light lasted about 4 summers and it too started flashing like a strobe.
Hayward ColorLogic is definitely a LEMON.
I am going to start researching to buy an alternative light for the pool.
Has anyone replaced theirs with something different?

  8. Same here. I have two colorlogic 2.5 lights in my pool and one has quit after 3 years and probably 10hrs total in opperation. Now I have to decide if I want to risk it again or buy two totally different units. Stay away from these.

  9. Pool light just died after being in use only 4 years E-mailed Hayward and got the reply of one year warranty – sorry. Cannot recommend this light. If you calculate the cost versus energy savings, if any, the cost easily outweighs any potential energy savings. I hope to find out that I can put another light in the Hayward Niche as I would like to stay as far away from Hayward as possible. Anybody know if that can be done?

  10. I have installed approx. 15 of these in replacement situatons and a couple with new nich and all over the past 4 years..

I have never had a problem. After reading this post, I could have been lucky.

  11. Have 2 colorlogic 2.5 since October 2006, now 1 is dead. 3.5 yrs is not good service @ $599/unit. Fancy unit ,but not servicable and too expensive. Already replace the other under warranty 3 months after installation. should have insisted to replace both, since modifications were done to the replacement because of flaws in the original. Bad,bad bad, bad. Can someone suggest a good solution.

  12. greg,
you do not have to drain pool to replace. On the outer trim ring there is a phillips head screw on the top facing the pool. Unscrew and lift light assembly up out of the water and place on deck. Make sure power supply is off at breaker before proceeding. Next, disconnect wire from breaker and tie/tape some heavy duty string to light wire at breaker box. Have enough string to reach where light is in pool (50’/100’etc;). Have someone in pool and someone at breaker feeding wire/string to the person in pool as he is pulling wire through light niche. After pulling through until string reaches pool, attach string to new cord and have guy at breaker pull until cord reaches him. Leave enough wire in pool that allows you to pull light up out of the water and wrap excess around light housing. Place new light in niche making sure to align bottom of light first(there is a little nodule that hooks over lip in niche), then screw in phillips in trim ring. Voila….Hope this helps
