  1. how much will it cost for GU26DV? sounds like this unit does not need to be connected to the boiler (I need boiler to heat my house)then probably not be suitable for me?

  2. From the tech notes: Air pressure Sensor that will monitor the balance of the intake pipes and the exhaust pipes. Technologically advanced multi pass heat exchanger.

Technologically advanced means just that. I bought the only GU45 ever shipped from Taiwan with problems. Or so I’m told. These hybrid water heaters have been sold in the U.S. since 2006. The tiny stainless steel cabinet with digital readout is very sexy. Sometimes focusing on sexy brings nothing but hell into our lives. The units have a two gallon water tank keeping enough hot water for 50 feet of 3/4 inch pipe at the desired water temp. As soon as the tank starts emptying, the tankless technology kicks in to give you endless hot water. The units have nearly zero emissions, extracting a very high percentage of heat from the natural or LPG gas fuel source. They exhaust through PVC. This all means high technology. It’s easy enough to guaraantee a well-built heavy duty stainless steel tank and heat exchange system for twenty years. This unit is loaded with fans, sensors, chips and all manner of modern emission-reducing technology. The longest warranty you’ll get on all the chips, fans and valves is five years.

I recommend using 3 inch PVC for both air inlet and outlet sides of the unit to avoid potential air and exhaust volume problems. When you share the inlet air with your living areas, the suction noise is close to the promised 70 decibels. Get a 3 inch intake pipe into the attic or outside.

Screen the intake. Attic insulation, especially blown-in, can cause havoc when accidentally knocked into an intake pipe. My unit had problems long before the blown-in got into the air suction side of the water heater. I’m telling you this happened to me to be fair as I can to Grand House water heater products.

You must have a plumber service these units. The factory has a help desk. I had a factory rep in my water heater closet more than two hours getting inlet and outlet an pressures to balance. He spent most of that time talking to the help desk himself.

AO Smith makes the HYB 90N. AO Smith has manufactured water heaters for decades, building some of the best in the business. Investigate the HYB 90N. The Grand House Inc. claim to fame is that they made bar-b-ques before they got into the high tech extremely expensive hot water heater business.

  3. I mis-stated some facts on 10/19. I’d like to replace those comments with the ones below:

If you take the plunge, use the maximum 3 inch PVC pipe size for air inlet and exhaust sides of the unit.

This avoids potential oxygen intake and exhaust outlet problems. When you share the inlet air opening with your living areas, suction noise is close to the 40 decibels promised in the install manual. Get that 3 inch intake into the attic or outdoors to make water heating lots quieter.

Screen the intake pipe. Lizards, mice, bats and attic insulation, especially blown-in, wreak havoc with
