The Hayward Heat Pro offers the homeowner more efficient heating of your inground swimming pool. The Heat Pro will provide Hayward’s own ArmourCoil Protected Heat Exchanger. But with the ArmourCoil System you can eliminate that. On the Heat Pro Heater you will find a Digital L.E.D Control Panel, this panel is easy to read and will give the homeowner a digital readout of the water temperature and if there are any problems the heater offers a diagnostic analysis.

Have a hayward Pro 2100. It is going on its 4th summer and have had problems every year. Service in my area is difficult to acquire at best. They may have a good product but I sure have a lemon. Hayward has been little to no help and the one service company that will work on the product has not proven out yet.
If you buy, make sure you have good service in your area!
What kind of issues are you having with the heater?
Well they made two lemons I got the other . My Hayward H250 experience started with having to manually light it bought in august 2006. In April of 2007. Gas smell seemed to come and go regularly. Paid 150 dollars for a tec to tell me a spider web blocked the hole (ok this is a sore spot when talking to pool guys I have some pool guys that say oh yes very common and the other half that snicker and say that money ploy is very common). Pool store approved pool tech of course. So second year got pilot lit after checking for the spider web but the the heater never turned on. I figured it might be a thermostat problem or sensor related. Heater guy came out and for 500 dollars installed another pilot light assembly. He got it going but it was never right he could come back out for several hundred more but if it was the new pilot the return visit would be free of course. Heater would get extremely hot and little heat was going to the pool. Took four days for the pool to get warm and the paint burned off the stack and parts of the heater. Yes it got hot enough to shake violently and spray water out the heat exchanger fittings. So my hayward last me just under 2 years and I’m looking for a new one any ideas.
Hayward 250 installed Oct. 2006. Numerous proplems, mainly around not lighting, eroded electrical
connections. Latest problem – large amt. of smoke coming out exhaust. I think I got rhe 3rd lemon.
@BOB,
Do you live in a Northern or Southern state?
In the off season do you cover the heater with a heater cover?
I live in South Carolina and the weather is never severe.
Hey Bob,
Thanks for the feedback, I was curious, I have been working on pools and heaters here in the North (NY mostly) and we see a lot of corrosion, ants and animals that nest in the heaters in the winter,
We also get a ton of spiders that create webs in the heater orifices and then the heaters won’t fire. I always like to hear what problems other are having so I can see how the product truly preforms nationwide Vs just a particular area.
Have you contacted a rep? Are you still under warranty and iff so have they been treating you good?
Inquiring minds would like to know, and most of all Thanks so much for sharing!
Feel free to let me know the above,
Joseph
Bought a Hayward heater 5 years ago its been the same problem year after year with the “IF” code. Pay $175+ for heater tech recommended by Hayward to come out. He cleans it then within days it reverts back to the IF code. I am tired of paying this much money every year for the same problem. Many of my neighbors have heaters, nobody has this problem. Hayward has not provided me satisfaction blaming it on the outdoor elements and bugs which I think is a poor excuse. Very disappointed in what I believed was a good company, I have other Hayward outdoor products and those seem to have no problem.
Hi Colleen,
Have you ever tried to call Hayward directly, sounds like you might gave a lemon or a bad board.
Joseph
Yes I have contacted them every year, they refer me to a recommended Hayward Pool tech who comes out, cleans it, charges me then within a few days the same problem. This year they told me its an “outdoor unit” thus subject to spiders & ants making homes in crevices so it must be cleaned out annually. At $175 each year its very frustrating that nothing has been done. The IF code indicated some type of ignition failure according to what I’ve researched but Hayward did not address the indicated code other than to tell me to clean it. If I knew how to do this myself maybe I wouldn’t mind, but I specifically bought the Hayward brand for its reputation. Obviously I neglected to check their customer service reputation.
In case I decide to call for service again, what type of board are you referring to?
Hi Colleen,
I was referring to the Hayward Circuit Board. If you have a heater with electronics in it.
What MODEL Hayward Heater do you have, I can’t recall you mentioning the model.
Please let me know
Joseph
Thank you for getting back to me re the board. It is the Model H300 gas heater. Looks just like the one in the picture on this site under the H series.
I have a Hayward H 250 pool heater. I went to adjust the temp and the control panel just went black and nothing worked at all. I called the electrician and he said that electricity was getting to the control panel, but it just isn’t turning on. The transformer was OK too. Could it be the electronic control board? The heater is 2 years old.
Did you correct your problem? My H250 ED2LED went blank & the transformer checks out. Help please.
I have an H400 heater that was bought in dec. 07. The only problems I have had are 1) rollout. This is when wind blows the flame out and when it reignites, wiring is burned. A flame stack for $80 fixed it. They replaced the display panel under warranty from the rollout. 2) Sometimes unit takes forever to start up. I usually cycle the heater circuit breaker and it immediately fires. Now I just make that my last step in starting the heater up.
I have used it at least every two weeks and try to keep it free of debris and pests.
I also have an H400 purchased installed in Oct ’07. We live in Texas and the pool has been professionally maintained for 75% of the time. A leak was located in the exchanger and even though Hayward gives a 3 yr warranty, it excludes “water imbalance” so our pool builder categorically denied us any help. Hayward very arrogant and cocky when selling the product, almost as bad trying to speak to them about their top of the line product. Best advice I have is to buy something else, they are too big to care.
I have a H200 Electronic ignition purchasd in 2007. In Florida used once a week for a spa. My control panel is stuck on Stand-By. I am told that I must spend $600 for a Control Panel Bezel Assembly Part# HAXCPA1932 to be installed, including service call. The Heater is located outside but is protected from the elements. The entire heater only cost $1500 two years ago. It appears that Hayward knows there is a problem with these as they have been discontinued on the new models. I am wondering if there is a service bulletin for Hawyard service techs addressing these failures. Having worked for a national equipment manufacturer, I know that policy adjustments are made in circumstances where a part prematurely fails, even if the unit is techically out of warranty. Can anyone elaborate on these failures?
