Best In-Ground Swimming Pool Filters 2009
We want our swimming pools to be an at home vacation when we can’t take a destination vacation. So why would we treat our swimming pools with less than perfect equipment. This includes your swimming pool filter. The filter is one of the most important parts of the swimming pool. Without the filter you would get a high abundance of algae with bacteria and without a filter you won’t have a clean pool. So you should have a filter that was designed to fit your pool size and one that will last you more than one or two seasons.
With tough times we try to cut costs anyplace we can but when it comes to the swimming pool, there should be nothing less than a high performance, high quality pump. Three of the best in the business are Hayward, Pentair and Sta-Rite Filters; they offer high quality and highly efficient in-ground swimming pool filters.
Filters are what keep our pools clean and they can also prevent illness from swimming in contaminated water if the water is not filtered properly. You wouldn’t drink glass of water that was left stagnate overnight would you? Then why would you swim in a pool of stagnate pool water? That is why the filter is so important. Let’s take a look at what each company has to offer pool owners with in-ground swimming pools.
Hayward Sand Filters
Sand filters are the most traditional filters used on swimming pool back in the day and even today. The Hayward Sand Filters use special sand called # 20 Silica Sand; you can find this at your local swimming pool store. The difference in this sand and other brands is that the # 20 Silica Sand has sharper edges that can help pick up more particles and bacteria than other sand filters.
The Hayward Pro Series Plus is a great sand filter, these filters works great in conjunction with in-floor cleaning systems, solar heating systems and water features like fountains and waterfalls. The Hayward Pro Series Plus can also be used with in-ground pool and spa combinations. This unit has an automatic air relief system that will dispose of any air that may get trapped in the system while the filter is operational. This filter has a bigger capacity for the water and the sand to drain out quicker when it is time to close the pool. There are three different models in the Hayward Pro Series Plus Series.
Pentair Clean and Clear Cartridge Filter
Pentair Swimming Pool Products is one of the leaders in the swimming pool industry today. They have an extensive inventory of pumps, heater and filters. They have sand filters, cartridge filters and D.E Filters. But one of the premier filters is the Clean and Clear Cartridge Filter. This filter uses the combination of high performance and very low maintenance to bring you one of the hardest working filters in the industry.
The Clean and Clear Cartridge Filter is simple to remove and easy to clean. It comes with a clamp ring that is perfectly safe and provides easy access to the cartridge and the internal parts of filter. The unit is constructed with fiberglass-reinforced polypropylene for durability and a resistance to chemicals. The Clean and Clear Cartridge Filter has a 2″ plumbing at the bottom of the filter for the maximum flow.
There are 5 different models in the Pentair Clean and Clear Series. The CC50, CC75, CC100, CC100, CC150, and CC200 these filters offer a filtering area of 50 feet to 200 feet. Each one is more powerful than the next. In an 8-hour period, the CC50 offers a 24,000-turnover capacity (gallons of water) and the CC200 offers a 72,000-turnover capacity. These are just some examples of how powerful these cartridge filters are.
Some of the features of the Clean and Clear Cartridge Filter are the Unionized Connections; this filter has a chemical resistant tank body, a coreless cartridge for easy 1-2-3 cleaning. The Clean and Clear Filter has a high flow manual air relief valve with a 1-inch drain and wash out.
Sta-Rite HRPB Series Sand Filters
Sta-Rite is one of the leaders in the industry today. Like Hayward and Pentair they have an extensive line of filters too, they have D.E Filters, Sand and Cartridge Filters. Sta-Rite has some high quality and high performance filters such as the Sta-Rite Sand Filters Cristal-Flo, HRPB and the Systems 3. The HRPB Sand Filter is one of the best in the industry. Let’s take a look at what this sand filter for in-ground swimming pools has to offer.
The HRPB comes in 2 different models the HRPB24 and the HRPB30. The HRBP24 has a turn over capacity of 17,800 gallons of water to 22,000 gallons of water all within the 6-hour time block. The HRPB24 has a sand capacity of about 250 pounds. The HRPB30 has a turn over capacity of 27,000 to 35,000 gallons of water in a 6-hour time frame. This filter is more geared towards larger in-ground swimming pools.
Both filters have a 6 position control valve is makes backwashing and filtering the pool that much easier. The Series offers a sleek new design that allows the filter to filter the water and the sand particles better than the standard sand filters. The reason why Sta-Rite can offer this feature is that the filter has a larger capacity in the tank. By having a larger tank, you will find that you will backwash your swimming pool a lot less. You will see that you will start to spend more time in the pool rather than maintaining it. All of the filters for in-ground swimming pools that we featured here are some of the best in the industry. Each one has different features that may be better suited to your size and style of swimming pool. Now is the time to replace the old filter with a brand new, more energy efficient filter. I have a heyward filter. today I walked out and noticed water underneath on the concrete slab . I looked down and saw that it has a nosel at the bottom with a cap over it and that’s where it appears to be dripping from. does this mean I’ve totally lost my filter or could this be a simple repair ? also I was wondering why it was taking me so long to get my pool clean . can some one please help me out . I’ve shocked and been putting algae in there . its getting lighter but still has green. Im desperately seeking help and answers.
When choosing water filters for the pool, it’s best to choose quality over money. I started with a cheap water filter and believe me, it didn’t give me my money’s worth. My pool still got green water. These filter brands you’ve published are good brands. I have one of the same kind and I have been using it for a long time. It cleans my pool well and makes the water look clear and fresh always.
