Taco 003 Circulator Pump

Taco has been in business for over 70 years, they have an extensive line of pumps including the Taco 00 Series Wet Circulator Pumps. The purpose and function of the Taco 003 Circulator pump is to circulate hot or chilled fresh water through an opened or closed loop. Any system that basically has a low flow water applications such as Portable Water System, Water Source Heat Pumps and Domestic Hot Water Recirculation.

There are 4 different size Taco 003 Pumps, the Taco 003-B4 uses a 3/4″ Sweat Connection, the 003-BC4 uses a 1/2″ Sweat Connection, the Taco 003-BT4 uses a 3/4″ NPT Connection and the 003-BC4-1 uses a Union Connection. The letters at the end of the pump’s model numbers stand for, B= Bronze, BC= Bronze, Sweat, Panel Mount Tapping, BT= Bronze Threaded and BC-1= Bronze, Union, Panel Mount Tappings. Being a part of the Taco 00 Series Pumps, the 003 has a replaceable cartridge that houses all of the moving parts located inside the pump. Taco has made it easy for techs and homeowners to be able to replace the cartridge rather than replacing the entire pump. The Taco 003 has a compressed design and it uses very low power to operate, this will help with space but it will also help with the cost of running the pump. The lower the power usage the more cost efficient it is to run the pump.

The Taco 003 has a bronze construction, which ensures longevity, and it decreases the chance for erosion, rust and corrosion. Plus, these pumps gave a quiet and more efficient operation than other circulator pumps. In addition to the pump having a bronze and sweat construction, the stator housing of the pump is made from steel, the cartridge is made from Stainless Steel, the impeller is made from a non metallic material, the shaft is made from Ceramic, the Bearings are Carbon and the O-Rings and Gaskets are made from EPDM.

Some of the features of the Taco 003 Circulating is the pump is self lubricating, so you never have to remember to fill the pump with oil. The Taco 003 has a direct drive with low power consumption, it has no mechanical seal, as we mentioned it has a replacement cartridge, which is more efficient and will save you money than having to buy a new pump.

Let’s check out the specs for performance on the Taco 003 pump, the flow range is 0-6 gallons per minute, the head range is 0-5 feet, and the minimum fluid temperature allowable is 40 degree Fahrenheit with a maximum fluid temp of 220 degrees Fahrenheit. The Maximum Working Pressure Allowable is 125 psi. The available connection sizes on the 003 series are 1/2″ sweat, 3/4″ sweat, 3/4″ npt and union. The motor information on all of the 003 pumps is 115 volts, 60 Hz, single phase, .43 amps, 1/40 horsepower and it runs on 3250 rpm’s.
