Sta-Rite is one of the leading brands in the swimming pool industry. They have a full line of Sand Filters, Cartridge Filters and D.R Filters. But sand filters seem to be the most popular in backyards. Sta-Rite works hard to provide quality products and the best customer service they can. Sta-Rite offers a full line of swimming pool products for residential as well as commercial swimming pools.Sta-Rite Sand Filter Buyers Guide

The top three Sta-Rite Sand Filters are the Cristal-Flo, the HRPB and the Systems 3. If you are looking for a new sand filter or you are purchasing one for the first time, see what Sta-Rite has to offer; you won’t want to look anywhere else. The Cristal-Flo Sand Filter is one of the easiest sand filters to work. On other sand filters you may find that the handle for the control valve is often hard to turn but not on the Cristal-Flo. The sand filter is best used on in-ground pools and fishponds or water fountains. The Cristal-Flo is made from a strong extra thick polyethylene tank, making it ong lasting without running the risk of rust and corrosion.

Sta-Rite Cristal-Flo Sand Filter

Sta-Rite Cristal-Flo Sand Filter
The Sta-Rite Cristal-Flo Sand Filter offers a 6-position valve that will let you do all of the necessary functions of the filter, such as backwash or filter. The Sta-Rite sand filter has a large drain plug that is easy to access for the removal for winterizing or simple maintenance. There are 5 different styles in the Sta-Rite Cristal-Flo Sand Filter Series. They are available in 1-1/2″ or 2″ tank port sizes and they have a sand requirement ranging from 100 pounds to 600 pounds. Each Sta-Rite Cristal-Flo Sand Filter has a larger capacity than the next. If you are interested in the Cristal-Flo, contact your local swimming pool supply or check out some site online and see who can offer the best price.

Sta-Rite HRPB Sand Filters

The Sta-Rite HRPB Sand Filter is perfect for in-ground swimming pools, in-ground hot tubs as well as commercial applications such as cooling towers and fishponds and water gardens. The HRPB Sand Filter offers 2 different models, The HRPB24, this model offers a turn over capacity of 17,800 to 22,000 gallons of water in a 6-hour time frame. The HRPB24 has a sand capacity of 250 pounds. The HRPB30 can filter a 4.9 square foot area and it has a turnover capacity of 27,000 to 35,000 in a 6-hour time frame. This model has a 400 sand requirement. There is a 6-position control valve making easy work of the filter controls. Often control valves on filters are hard to turn so back washing and filtering of the pool suffers. The HRPB Series offers innovative designs that allow the filter to handle dirt and debris much better. This is due in part to the filter capacity being increased. This feature will require a lot less time back washing your pool.

The Sta-Rite Systems: 3 Sand Filter

The Sta-Rite Systems: 3 Sand Filter
This style of sand filter is designed to help remove any particles and debris from your swimming pool. This sand filter will work best with in-ground swimming pools of any shape or size, in-ground spas and fishponds and water fountains. The construction of this filter is made from a two-piece tank housing made from Dura-Glas. If you are not familiar with Sta-Rite products, Dura-Glas is the industry leading glass reinforcement material and only Sta-Rite has it. The Systems: 3 is a low maintenance design. It can hold more dirt and debris so you won’t have backwash everyday and you can have longer filtering cycles, giving your pool a cleaner look for longer. This style of sand filter uses a two-drain plug system. The plug on the side will help with sand removal and the bottom plug will help with the ease of draining the filter without losing a lot of sand.

There are 2 different models in the Systems: 3 Sand Filter. The S7S50 offers a filter area of 2.4 square feet. It has a flow rate of 36-48 square feet and it has a turnover capacity of 13,000 to 17,000 in just 6 hours. The Model S8S70 has a filter area of 3.4 square feet and a flow rated gallons per minute of 51-68 square feet. It has a 6-hour turnover capacity of 18,000 to 25,000 gallons per minute. These are the best that Sta-Rite has to offer when it comes to sand filters. They each have great features and benefits. If you are purchasing or building a pool and you need a brand new system or your old filter has given out, then try a Sta-Rite Sand Filters, you won’t be disappointed.

  1. Hi Wethead,
I have always had a cartridge filter. Tired of having to rinse the filter once a week. So let me ask about the sand filter.
I have a new 3/4 whisperflo pump, and have 1 1/2″ pipe, with about a 50 foot distance from the main drain to the pump. The pool is max. of 20,000 gal, probably smaller.

Should I use the biggest sand filter I can get to maximize filtration, or will the 3/4hp pump be underpowered? What do you think would work best for the pool?

    Thanks in advance,
    Fred

  2. If you use a bigger filter that will be OK, You just want to make sure that the pump is big enough to “turn over” the pool ever 12 hours or so, join the forums as well to pick my brains more :)

  3. Hello Wethead,

  5. Hell wethead,
We have a crstal-flo sta rite sand filter, model T-240PB-1. We would like to replace the sand. We can buy the sand from our local leslie pool store. How to we do it, get rid of the old and replace with the new?
    Thanks for the help.

    • Hiya,

You will need to remove the multiport and then remove the sand. You can buy something called a “sand vac” and that will work with a garden hose and will vacuum the sand from the filter into a mason sand bag.(mason sand bags drain water) Then you will add the new sand,

You can buy “pool filter sand” at any pool supply store, BUT not at like a mason yard. There is a difference between mason sand and pool sand, But yes, any pool supply will sell pool filter sand.

You can dump the old sand in your backyard, spread it somewhere etc.

Let me know if you have any questions.

      Joseph

  6. My Sta-rite sand filter is no longer filtering. It is as though I have it set to recirculate the water rather than filter it — which I don’t. I can watch the trash and algae flowing right back into the pool as the water returns! The bottom of my pool is “brown” with dead algae! And, yes, I have back-washed the filter. Can you tell me what I should do to remedy this problem?

    • SOunds like the same thing that’s going on with me, it’s time to change the sand.
Mine is 5 or 6 years old, I run it 24 hours a day 12 months of the year and I was
also told that I would be better off if I drained the pool 1st and gave the side
and bottom a good cleaning, to get rid of any of the fouled water.

My pool was always clean, this year I have used more shock than previous
and now if I shock it it lasts 4 days and then starts to cloud and green up.

Just a pain as the water will not warm up for swimming again this year.

  7. I have a Sta-Rite T-210wf and I need to fill it will salt water and Zeobest. I know that you are supposed to use about half the amount that you do with sand. I am filtering a small 16′ round 42″ high rubber pool. I am thinking that it might be safe to use 1-2 – 50lb bags in the filter. I am new at this so this is a learning experience for me. I had the equipment from a larger pool that was never put up, and I am replacing the equipment that came with the small pool and is totally inadequate for the pool. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks…Gary Haygood
