Your pipes definately froze… You can get the lines repaired if they are copper or metal with a saulder gun. Otherwise you will have to replace the crackeed lines.

The person who installed it has opened and closed it every year. Upon turning on the heater this year it sarted leaking out of the left side of my Hayward H400 pool heater. I called “John” who opens ans closes the pool he came and looked and stated that it was due to poor hemical balance. My pool is always crytal clear vaccumed every Friday and the water chaked with the strips as well every Friday and the chemical added. The heat exchanger coils have slices on the 3 of the 4 coils (on the left side of the heater facing) 3 of the four have slices on them no corrosion, dis-coloration. I feel that the heater was not drained properly and the lines froze and when I turned the heater on the expanded and started leaking. Can any one out there please give me advise on where to go or send pictures for validation. I have had two personnel come look at it. One a heater guy and one an actual pool service that both will swear this was the result of frozen pipes not corrosive pipes. please help.

I have a 33′ round above ground pool. The people who installed it convinced me that it would be necessary for me to have a main drain in it. I had no idea at the time, so I let them do it. Now it is time to winterize my pool, and I have no idea what to do with the plumbing that goes to the main drain. I have heard from a few different sources to “blow out the line and add antifreeze” but nothing more specific than that. I don’t know how to blow out the line, or how to blow the antifreeze in there. I really just want to make sure we close it properly, but it seems no one can give me clear instructions (in laymans terms) on what to do. Please help!

I have been running my pool pump at night in order to keep the pipes from freezing. Tonight, my pump woke me in the middle of the night making loud noises and I eventually went outside and turned the pump off. I had the pump checked about three weeks ago and there is nothing wrong with it. Why is it making these loud noises and what can I do about it? How long does it take for pipes to freeze? Any suggestions will greatly be appreciated.

I just bought a new home with a heated inground pool. I call a professional to come check everything out and he replaced a lot of things includeing the freezeguard. I haven’t been to the house in a few days and once i got back, I saw a thick layer of ice covering the entire top of the pool. The freeze guard did not kick in. I am super paranoid and don’t know what to do. I want to know what problems I might have to deal with and how much such repares would cost me.
Thank you,
Elma

Hi Angela,

Happy Holidays,

Yes – you can heat the area with a space heater that can work most of the time, If its super cold you may have to wait, but I would want to fix that right away, Thats just me ;-)

Let me know if you have more questions.

Joseph

We have a pool pilot that watches the water temp for us. It got cold a few days ago and the pool SHOULD have been coming on, but the pilot says it is 75 degrees. Of course it isn’t. I found that the pool lines are frozen (PVC). We brought the pvc in that contains the salt converter, and everything else is not going anywhere.

MY idea is to heat the area with a space heater and try to defrost it that way. Will that make it worse? Is the condensation going to create problems?

Should we leave it until the weather warms up a bit…here in Virginia Beach, it USUALLY does not get this cold. Not for long anyway.

HELP!!! :)
