I know that you are supposed to use about half the amount that you do with sand. I am filtering a small 16′ round 42″ high rubber pool. I am thinking that it might be safe to use 1-2 – 50lb bags in the filter. I am new at this so this is a learning experience for me. I had the equipment from a larger pool that was never put up, and I am replacing the equipment that came with the small pool and is totally inadequate for the pool. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks…Gary Haygood

SOunds like the same thing that’s going on with me, it’s time to change the sand.
Mine is 5 or 6 years old, I run it 24 hours a day 12 months of the year and I was
also told that I would be better off if I drained the pool 1st and gave the side
and bottom a good cleaning, to get rid of any of the fouled water.

My pool was always clean, this year I have used more shock than previous
and now if I shock it it lasts 4 days and then starts to cloud and green up.

Just a pain as the water will not warm up for swimming again this year.

It is as though I have it set to recirculate the water rather than filter it — which I don’t. I can watch the trash and algae flowing right back into the pool as the water returns! The bottom of my pool is “brown” with dead algae! And, yes, I have back-washed the filter. Can you tell me what I should do to remedy this problem?

Hiya,

You will need to remove the multiport and then remove the sand. You can buy something called a “sand vac” and that will work with a garden hose and will vacuum the sand from the filter into a mason sand bag.(mason sand bags drain water) Then you will add the new sand,

You can buy “pool filter sand” at any pool supply store, BUT not at like a mason yard. There is a difference between mason sand and pool sand, But yes, any pool supply will sell pool filter sand.

You can dump the old sand in your backyard, spread it somewhere etc.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Joseph

My name is Matthew Gregory. I have a 24’x52″ above ground swimming pool that holds 13,000 gallons. I’m planning on purchasing one of the sta-rite cristal-flo filter and pump packages. My question is this, I’m finding that sta-rite offers several different models of this filter type and am wondering which you would recommend for my pool. I also have an intex saltwater chlorine generator and want to know if these filters will still work with my system.
