This unit is less than a year old and the freon levels are correct. The HVAC service guy doesn’t know what is wrong and since it was purchased by the previous owner, he is refusing to replace it under warranty. Help?

Most likely what is in air-handler is a thin foam type filter. If it hasn’t been changed or cleaned for 2 yrs it probably is in bad shape. Your indoor coil is most likely dirty to. If you have 1 central return in house I would check to see if its a filter grille. if you have more than 1-2 returns than I would have a Honeywell Media installed at air handler.(I include them on every job) these filters can last a yr as compared to the 1″ or foam that need replacing or cleaning every 30 days.
Hope this helps

It is a split system and the only numbers I can read are Model # RPKA-031JAZ, serial # (I think) is 6380M11021664? We bought the home 2 yrs ago; when we went to change the filter, it appears to be jammed in the slot and looks to have disintegrated or caved in.

We have a service call in but they cannot come until next week. Can you help us? Thanks, Lisa MacGuire (Jan 9, 2010)
