I have tried twice to do the ‘turn water off at the main source, open all faucets to drain off the air, close them then slowly turn the water main back on. That did not work at all, if anything it made the sound louder.
I also have a tankless water heater set at 135 degrees and a sump pump in the basement that drains out to the street level plumbing. I have two pumps, the primary one is electric and the back up is the water pressure model.
Do these two things have something to do with this banging? I have tried to cushion all visible pipes thinking this might help but nothing.
This banging is occurring at all times day and night when the water is not running. I have baseboard heating using a gas furnace in the basement. Thinking this was the issue, I turned it off by turning off the electricity and also turning off the pilot light.
I have run out of ideas and have extinguished EVERY DIY fix found on the internet and YouTube. A month ago I had a plumber out to replace the pilot light ignition on the heater and when I mentioned it to him he said unless we called him out just for that cause he could not offer any help.
Pushing him a bit further, he stated it could be caused by so many issues that he could not pin point just one even if he were to come out just for that one reason.
Any help would be immensely appreciated as this is driving me crazy. It is all I can think about and when I hear that noise it makes me think of it again driving my frustration level up once again. HELP!!!!!!!
