I am buying a new furnace. I now have an 18 year old Jantrol, 90% efficiency, single stage, 90000 Btu. I live in a 40 year old tri-level, 2200 sq. feet. In winter, if the family room is warm, the upstairs is too hot. Would the variable speed furnace help with this? The brands I’m considering: Amana, Trane, Lennox, Carrier. I would appreciate any help or advice.

When a tech installs using a high skill level, with great field experience, common HVAC sense, manufacturers install requirements and the local code…..you end up with an excellent install and may have some parts go bad and this is due to the global economy striking the USA…..first parts were made in Mexico, which were pretty good…..NOW China….not very good. It is the way of the world. The USA citizens wanted cheap and now they have CHEAP.

I had an issue on a customers furnace where the igniter ended up being the culprit….Not getting hot enough to light the gas. Make certain the intake is large enough diameter PVC for the BTU size furnace you have as well as the exhaust. Make sure there are no loops or dips in the pressure switch tubings, this will trap moisture locking out switches. These are very reliable furnaces with the exception of induced draft blowers going bad….poor cooling design VS. bearing design. Best heat exchanger out of every one out there along with the best warranty.
Get back with any questions.

i would never buy anything amana , had issue with stoves , fridges , bad support and rude , think i will go for a trane – i am sure they are a rebranded company another site said they are manufactured by goodman. most people agree they are not good , deisgned to be cost effective … kenmore , amana , GE water heaters all just replacing name badges .

” and thats all i have to say about that”

It has never ignited reliably. The control system just doesn’t work, and the contractor has not been able to fix it.
