Meter readers take a lot of hassle from homeowners; they get blamed for their high water bills. The water meter reader’s job is to simply take the information from your home and pass it through to the water authority. They cannot control the water that is being used in your home. They are simply information collectors. Aside from the fact that the information that they use determines how much your bill is, the fact is that you are the one using the water. They have no control at all of how much your bill is. When the meters are located in your home, they will knock on your door and ask to see the meter.
Make sure that you see their identification and make note of their name. Escort them to where the meter is and they will read it and be on their way. If you are not at home when they come calling then they will leave you a card so that you can read the information yourself. If this is not sent back then the water authority will estimate the number and this could cause your bill to rise. So, if you are not home, always make a point to read the meter for a more accurate reading of your meter.
