when i turn on my washing machine the water gets to a certain level and continues to run water but stays at the same level until i turn it off. if it does fill up and start the cycle it will do this again when it fills up to rinse - the water continuously runs!!

This time of year always has me wondering if a frozen pipe may be causing your problems.
I have no idea where you live whether it is Maine or, Miami...

Other than that possibilities include a clogged screen on the inlet or hose of the washer, a bad solenoid valve, or, possible control circuit problems....

Hi Philip,

If you never touch the water valves then my next answer would be to check the pump, if you have no water going into the machine and water is being supplied to the machine then your pump could be bad.

Can you provide me with the age and the brand / type of the machine?

If so I might be able to link you to some troubleshooting PDF's for your model.

low 40's(probably not a frozen pipe). I guess my next question is, How could the water supply valves get turned off? never ever touch anything in that area of the machine.
