During this time, new moms to be start looking through the baby name books. It is ok for you not to settle on the first name, many new moms will go through many lists and hundreds of names before choosing one. Looking for these new names is a lot of fun and can be done with your family. By now your doctor should have informed you about taking any over the counter medications and medications that contain Aspirin. You should be taking care of yourself and your baby.
Baby’s Development
As we mentioned in previous weeks, the baby is still growing at a very fast pace. Right now the baby is about the size of a small bean. As you see the baby in sonogram pictures, the baby’s head is bigger than the rest of the baby’s body. The eyes, nose and the mouth are more distinctive. You may be able to see the baby’s ears starting to form as well. The hands look like little paddles and as the fingers; toes continue to develop every day.
By this week of your pregnancy, the organs are starting to develop and the heartbeat can be clocked at 150 beats per minute. This is normal, when you hear the heartbeat you will notice that it is fast but don’t panic. Every baby’s heartbeat is faster than ours. The digestive system and the respiratory systems are getting stronger every day. As the weeks progress you will see amazing changes. Also, by the sixth week of pregnancy, the baby will start to move a bit, you won’t be able to feel it until much later in the pregnancy.
Changes With Your Body
Every pregnant woman will experience different things at different times. You shouldn’t compare what other new moms to be have experienced and if you haven’t felt what they are feeling you may have some anxiety about it but it is unnecessary to get worked up about what one new mom to be felt and you didn’t. Concentrate on your pregnancy; if you aren’t sure about something then call your doctor. Some of the cool things that you may notice is that your sense of taste and smell are heightened. This will last throughout the pregnancy. You will soon start to notice that you will want foods that you normally wouldn’t.
You may feel an increase need to eat. The baby will soon start to absorb much of the nutrients that you are consuming. To avoid stuffing yourself and feeling sick, try eating smaller meals more frequently. This will help control your hunger and avoid overeating. Some pregnant women develop heartburn while pregnant when they eat certain foods and sometimes the pain can be excruciating. Talk to your doctor about what foods are good to eat and what foods you should stay away from.
What To Expect
In the sixth week of pregnancy, you should be getting used to being pregnant. You may develop some morning sickness and some mild headaches. You will notice that you are becoming more tired as the weeks go on. This is perfectly normal. But you should be listening to your body, if you start to feel tired you have to rest. It is best to get a lot of rest, if you are run down then your immune system is weakened, plus when you become pregnant, your immune system is weakened anyway.
You need to stay strong and healthy. The fatigue is telling you to slow down and take a break. You will also be getting ready to go to the next doctor’s appointment. Soon, you will see how your baby is growing. You will be able to see the heart beating but may not be able to hear it just yet.
