You should try eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the course of the day. This will help on the amount of food that you consume at once and it will help ease morning sickness too. There are many baby books out there that some women carry around as their go to guide. But these books are simply guides as what you could expect. Every woman’s pregnancy is different and what one woman felt may or may not be what you are feeling.
Baby’s Development
In your fifth week of pregnancy, the baby will start to grow and develop at a fast pace. Your baby will be about 5 to 6 mm. The embryo will still be fixed to the uterine wall. The placenta will soon start to form. You will see that the baby’s head, eyes and an opening of the mouth are starting to develop. By the time your next sonogram appointment you may be able to see the toes and fingers. At this stage you should be taking your prenatal vitamins everyday.
You should be getting plenty of folic acid. The baby’s brain will be forming and it is a very important time. As the weeks go by you will see more and more changes on the sonogram. It is a very exciting time in your pregnancy; you see a lot of things happen in the first trimester. It is an important time for growth and development.
Changes With Your Body
You may have noticed that you have been more emotional lately. This is due to the pregnancy hormones. This is perfectly normal and you will see it from time to time throughout the entire pregnancy. You may want to explain this to your significant others that this is due to the pregnancy and you really can’t control it, you can ask them to bear with you. You may find that burst of energy that you may have felt in the beginning weeks started to fade. This is also normal but it will last until the start of the second trimester. Don’t try to use caffeine products for extra energy; too much caffeine is not good for the baby. Talk to your doctor about what limits are acceptable.
Some women experience some spotting or cramping at this stage but it is normal. If they persist, call your doctor for safety reasons. It is never a bad idea to call the doctor if you have any concerns. At the start of the pregnancy you should have a sit down with your doctor and make a list of questions that you may have. This doesn’t mean that you should worry every time something new happens. If this is your first pregnancy then you won’t know what to expect, it is normal to be concerned when something feels new. Try keeping a journal about how and what you are feeling. Then every time you have a doctor’s appointment, bring the journal with you.
What To Expect
You should expect to be excited about become a Mom whether for the first time or again. You can expect to be tired for the first trimester. You will have many doctors’ appointments in the coming months. You can look forward to hearing the baby’s heartbeat for the first time and if you choose, you can find out the sex of the baby at around 20 weeks. If you are planning any lifestyle changes, now is the time to do it. If you are on specific doctor’s orders then make sure that you follow them and make sure that you are taking your pre-natal vitamins.
Tips/Advice
A good piece of advice is to simply take one day at a time. Try not to speculate what is going happen a week from now or a day for now. You may start to notice a slight weight gain, again, this is normal. Talk to your doctor about what a safe weight gain is each month and if there are any exercises that you can do to help keep in shape while pregnant.
