Question:
I have a Hayward CL-200 chlorinator. When I turn on the filter I hear a sound coming from inside the chlorinator. I opened the top and saw that there was no water inside and that that is the cause of the noise. When I fill the chlorinator with water the noise stops until the water level goes down again. What’s wrong with this? Also, I sometimes have air bubbles mixed in with the water in the returns and my filter is running at a very high level (about 25) even after I opened and cleaned out the filter. Help! Thanks,Rob

Hi Rob,
Let me answer these questions one by one to make it easy for you.

Yes, You will hear a loud “gurgling” when there is no water in the Chlorinator because that is the sound of the water rushing past opening of the chlorine feeder.

Yes, The noise will stop if the Chlorine feeder has some or a lor of water in it. You can try to turn the dial up on the side of the tank of the Chlorinator. If the dial is already turned up all the way(maxed out on 10), then chances are the Chlorinator has gone bad and you will either need to replace it or just cut it out of your system and place the tablets in the skimmer baskets if you choose. Or like I said or will have to replace it.

Yes, another VERY common problem, but super easy to fix 98% of the time. You either have a loose drain plug, bad cover gasket, worn o-ring in the front pump union, or a loose fitting in the suction side of your pump.
Air has to be “brought in” to the system before it can be blown out through the jets. So have a look in the paces I just described and check out these articles I have wrote in the past that are on this exact topic.
