When you go to flush the water and the water rises rather than decreases you have a clog. If you have never plunged a toilet before here are some simple steps that you can follow to make the job easier. You will need a plunger. If you do not have one, you can find these in the local Home Depot or Lowe’s. You can also find them in Wal-Mart and Target. You will see the small plungers because you want to do the job right, get the stronger plungers, they work better.
Place some towels around the bowl; if the toilet has filled almost to capacity, you may have some spillage. Place the plunger gently into the toilet. Place the plunger over the hole and press firmly down. Many people jerk the plunger up and down very fast because they think the faster you plunge the faster it will work. Press firmly and pulse up and down a couple of times. Depending on what is clogging the toilet, you could have your clog unclogged in seconds.
If the clog is not dispersed on the first couple of tries, try pressing down harder and do this a couple more times. This should relieve your problem. If you still have the clog it may be a more serious problem and you may need something like liquid plumber or maybe an actual plumber. Some tips to follow when plunging your toilet, never flush the toilet, as you are plunging, wait until the water deceases and then after you can flush to make sure that the plunging worked.
