How I (Laurie) Found a Leaky Pipe

WeT HeaD Knowledge

My husband is the plumber, but I am the one who found a leaky pipe. A few months ago, I started to notice that the ceiling above the washing machine appeared a little wet as did the black pipe coming down from it. It wasn’t as yet causing any problems so I ignored the leak. I am the queen of ignoring what I don’t want to deal with.

As time went on, I started noticing a little water on the floor near the washing machine. I had not called it to the attention of my husband, the plumber. His motto is,” I do plumbing all day; I don’t want to do it at night too”. My husband doesn’t do home projects quietly. There is always a lot of sighing and grumbling. He is a perfectionist, so the job takes longer than I feel it needs to. In his defense, when he does do a job, I am confident it is done right.

The puddle of water seemed to have a life of its own. It continued to be bigger and bigger. I ignored it. One day my little grandson was visiting. I have a playroom in the basement near the washing machine. I noticed that his socks were wet. I went into where he had been playing and discovered I had an indoor swimming pool in my laundry room. Even I couldn’t ignore it any longer. My husband, the plumber, was home and I knew I had to bring it to his attention. I yelled up to him in a cheery voice, “I think we have a leak somewhere in the bathroom”. Even downstairs in the basement, I heard the grumbling and sighing begin. I knew what was coming and contemplated shooting myself. I have children, grandchildren and my husband, the plumber to think of so I nixed the shooting myself idea.

He yelled down to me that he would run water in the various places in the bathroom, and my job would be to figure whether it was the tub, toilet or sink that was leaking. I was happy that we were having together time until water started running down my face ruining my make-up. I rose above the fact that I probably looked like one of the band members from Kiss, and yelled up that it was the sink leaking.

The sink is being fixed today by my husband, the plumber and my wonderful son-in-law. I am confident that there will be no sighing or grumbling in front of my son-in-law. I just hope none of the testosterone gets on me, I don’t need a beard!
