I think most plumbers do not expect a tip and seem surprised when you give them one. Under what conditions or circumstances would or should you tip a plumber?
I had to call a plumber out once on a holiday and even though I included him in the dinner meal I felt he deserved more than turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie, he deserved a tip. A middle of the night call is an absolute! It is a given when you drag this man or woman out at 3:30 am to fix the toilet, or a pipe dripping unmercifully in the basement. Even though he might be charging you extra for these holiday or late night runs, a tip is really just a way of staying, thank you. Another instance might be when you call and he says, “I will be right over” and you know, he is dropping things or changing his schedule to help you out.
I know in my life, I tipped a plumber because I had to run out to the store and when I got back he had taken the things out of my oven which was done, turned the pot on to boil the spuds, and wiped up when the cat had gotten sick. When I walked in, he was holding my aged cat, petting his head and soothing him.
I tipped him. And, if he was single I would had married him.
