Hayward Superpump II with Pacfab DE Filter Problems

Question:
Hi, I have a DE filter. I replaced the grids this year. The system pumps through great on recirc perpetually, but loses good circulation within an hour or two on filter. I have a 1.5 hp superpump two and a pacfab filter. These have worked great together for years, but not this one. I had a little problem with this last year, that is why I replaced the grids, but it is even worse this year, and replacing them seemed to do no good. I am at a loss. I am wondering if the pump is loosing some of its power or something. Any Ideas? Thanks, JeffHayward Superpump with Pacfab DE Filter Problems

Answer:

Hi Jeff,

How much DE are you adding into the pool filter after you backwash.

Also, what color are the grids at this point after you wash them off, which leads me to my last question.

Have you taken the filter apart his year?

Please let me know the above and I can help you further.

Joseph

    Joseph,

Thanks for your response. I have taken the filter apart twice this year. At the beginning when I replaced the grids, and subsequently to see if it was overly dirty because of the problems. I cleaned them the second time after soaking them is filter wash and a gentle pressure washing. They are white. I am putting in about a 1.5 pound coffee can full of DE.

    Thanks,
    jeff

    Joseph,

Yeah, it is still doing the same thing. Will run on recirc for days without incident, but on filter it stops after a few hours, even without DE in it.

I am trying to bring back a pool from having sat a year with a lot of half rotted leaves.
I have the same setup as the OP and am having the same problem except my pump stops flowing after less then an hour.
After having skimmed most the leaves out what would the best way to get the smaller suspended material out?

    thanks,
    fredrick
