Thanks Joe, For replying. Would you know if the lower half of the filter tank can be purchased seperately without buying the entire new filter?

Hi Mel,

You might have to replace the lower half of the filter tank at this point.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Joseph

Hi Tammy,

He was correct, Just remove the black belly band / clamp and remove the top section and you will see the fingers.

Wash the fingers until they turn white and then rinse out the tank and then put it all back together.

Let me know if you need more help.

Hi -

We have a Hayward E-40 D.E. Filter. Where do we begin to take it apart to get to the fingers to clean them? We have closed our pool for the winter and now need to clean the pump and filter before we put them away. My husband began to remove the black (semi-circle) clamp assembly and hardware. When he did this and lifted up (not knowing if what he was doing was right) and we looked in - it all seemed very involved and we quickly put everything back together. How else do we get in?? Was he right?? Help!!

I have a EC65A filter I'm cleaning the fingers with a muriatic acid and water solution as recommended by the Hayward Pool Products manual. It doesn't say how long to soak them. How long should I leave them in the solution?

Ron,

From what you have told me it sure sounds like the c-clips. If you "spread" the fingers apart you will be able to see if the bottom c-clip is there if you remove the handle and the top cover(part #4) by removing the handle though bolt(part #3) you will be able to see if the top c-clip is there. You do not have to separate the tube sheets. The c-clips are not inside the tube sheets, so if the filter is already apart, just look to see if they are there how I described above,

Let me know if you need more help,

Joseph

Joseph,
I took the filter apart. As I pumped the arm, the fingers and tube sheets are moving up and down with the arm. I didn't get a chance to remove the tube sheet screws because they are on pretty tight. Do you think it is still the c-clip? When I put the filter back on and attached it to the pool to get water in the filter, it still doesn't feel and sound right.

Hi Ron,

You will have to take the filter apart and replace the "c-clips" that are on the bump shaft.

The c-clips are part #13 in the above diagram, They are made from "stainless steel" but a lower grade that does rot and corrode after some time.

Most pool centers will know EXACTLY what you need when you walk in and say: " Hi, I need two replacement c-clips for my EC30 bump shaft."

You can find the replacement c-clips for the ec30 online or at a local pool store.

They just snap back onto the bump shaft that is part #11 in the above diagram,

Let me know if you need any other help or have more questions,
