If you remember back in 2009 there was a lot of talk about the appliance stimulus program and something called “cash for appliances” which gives consumers a $50 – $200 dollar rebate on many appliances. You can also get a tax rebate of up to $550 with a triple or bundled purchase of three energy star rated appliances.
In order to be able to swap out your appliance for a new one and to be sure that your new appliance will qualify for the tax rebate you will want to make sure you see the energy star logo on the appliance that you are buying. Not all appliances qualify for the appliance stimulus package a.k.a cash for appliances or otherwise known as the appliance swap out etc. If you are not sure if the appliance you are looking at will qualify you can always ask the store associate or the online help desk before you make the purchase just to be sure it does get you that cash for appliance tax credit.
Depending on what state you live in will depend on how much you can get back er appliance. If you live in New York State and want to get a tax rebate you can get back between $75 – $105 if you buy a new refrigerator, washing machine or dryer. Now if you lived in Georgia you could receive $99 if you purchase a solar power water heater, heat pump or even a new gas boiler. If you live in California, Texas, North Carolina, and you are looking to get back cash on your appliances you will need to check with your local state.
Overall this program has been funded with 300 million dollars so there is plenty of money to go around for all of the states. So if you were looking to buy a new appliance, heat pump, boiler etc, check with your local state. Most of the time you can find how much of a tax rebate you will get back just by visiting your local state website.
