The courses are available through your local vocational school and anyone can sign up for them. You don’t have to be a man to be a plumber. Once you have completed your classes, you may need to find an apprentice position within a local plumbing company. It is best to start off possibly in the office or as a helper before becoming a plumber. Being a woman you will have to prove yourself because that is all we seem to do when it comes to doing a job that is normally taken by men.
We can watch and learn the way that they perform each task and soon develop our own way of doing things. The main thing is to get the job done right. As women we have to study harder and keep up with the daily grind of the job. The good news is that it can be done! We don’t see many women in the plumbing industry simply because there isn’t too much of an interest in it. But there are some very successful women in the industry. They started out as apprentices and fought their way to the top and some of them own their own plumbing companies.
If you are a woman and you are currently taking classes to learn to become a plumber then you are on the right path. You may encounter some plumbing companies that don’t want to take on women. If this happens to you then you can fight hard to get your foot in the door or talk to more than one company and you will find the right company where you can grow. You want to convince the employer that you want to learn from the best and that you can help each other out. Don’t get disappointed if you don’t find something right away, keep at it and you will find success like the other women plumbers.
