Also contributing to the quiet operation is Bryant’s own Aero Quiet System II. This system will condense the airflow and bring in a sound absorption materials for a reduction in sound. As we mentioned earlier there are two models in the Evolution Heat Pump Series, the 288ANA and the 286ANA. Let’s take a look at what both heat pumps have to offer. 1. We put in a Bryant two stage heat pump, Model 286A, three years ago. It has broken down twice. The first year we had it, no problems, but the second year the internal crankcase heater shorted out and was blowing fuses. So they replaced it with and external heater. Now a year later the compressor has gone out in it. The parts are covered but the labor isn’t, but this doesn’t give me any confidence in this unit. They said it will take 7 to 15 days to get a new compressor, at least I think it will be a new one. And that’s not to comforting in the hot weather. Had I known that Bryant was rank so low, I would have chosen a different brand.

    • I have had one of these units since they were brand new and not one problem. The description of the problems you described indicates that your installing contractor did not do a good job and did not back up his installation.

  2. I too had a Bryant two stage heat pump put in my home 3 years ago. This summer is the first time we had an issue, but our compressor has gone out. Although the compressor is covered under warranty the labor is not. When I called Bryant and asked them if they felt a $750 expense for a 3 year old unit was reaosnable, they were not helpful and basically told me to take it up with local vendor and distributor. Very frusturated……Purchase a unit that is suppose to be energy efficient and save money on your cooling and heating bills, but get a hit like this….not sure when the savings will catch up.

  3. i m a contractor that has been dealing with bryant for over 20 years now . sorry to hear that your contractor would not do anything for you. Bryant is the only product i will ever sell and my customers get a min 5 years labour. It truly sounds like a poor installation. Would be nice to see some pics.

  4. This message is for Barry or any other Bryant contractor. I want to install a bryant evolution 288ana036000 heatpump in my home. I have a newmac oil furnace. Can this be installed as an add on to my existing equipment? I am not ready to replace my furnace because it is brand new. It shows that it needs an evolution control to function properly and when I look at the wiring of the ABCD bus it shows the evolution control wired directly to the furnace than to the heat pump through that ABCD bus. Can these heat pumps work without the evolution control? Can I wire it to a 3 heat 2 cool heat pump stat?

  5. Compressor went out on our 2.5 year old “top of the line” evolution heatpump. The outrageous bill is over $650 for labor and coolant. Horribly warranty coverage for this “top” unit. Will definately consider other brands next time. Bryant will not receive consumer recommendations from me.

  6. We are building a new house and trying to decide if we need to upgrade the Bryant heat pump they will be installing. So far, I haven’t read many positive reviews on the Bryant system. Kind of scary since we don’t have that choice. What is the differenc between the single stage and the 2 stage? Any advice? Thanks!

  7. I have the Bryant 2 stage evolution system for 5 years & after the 1st year I have had to get worked on over 12 times. Last time was the compressor. I doubt I will buy Bryant or Carrier again. The savings in energy was paid out in service many times over. Stay away.

  8. Early Compressor failure could be the result of poor installation. Make sure your installer knows the absolute must of evacuating all moisture from the line set.

  9. Evolution Heat pump is not recommended by me. Please save yourself the money and time and get something else. The compressor went out on our main system last week. It was fixed last night and our upstairs unit quit working tonight. Our THREE systems are only 4 years old and we have had them serviced twice a year since owning the home. The main system’s compressor went out on a Friday. When diagnosed Monday, we were told that it would take 3 days to arrive, and cost $700 labor that the warranty doesn’t cover. Thursday afternoon the WRONG COMPRESSOR ARRIVED. Friday morning I spoke to Carrier who said Monday would be the earliest it could be here. Apparently they didn’t really seem to care about customer satisfaction especially since we had bought 3 of their top of the line systems. The compressor was thankfully replaced yesterday because our dealer had one that another customer ordered (what does that tell you?) but didn’t show up to get. I’m really not looking forward to the expense or the delay in correcting the upstairs issue. Also, we have been under extensive heat advisories the whole time. Thanks but not thanks Bryant. Your products and service are horrible. I will go back to a Trane for sure next time.

  10. Since my post yesterday, we had the pump to the main Evolution system leak all over my basement. Additionally the upstairs’ system capacitor went out last night. The capacitor only has a one year warranty, so it ended up being a $100 weekend.

  11. Just like others, 2.5 year compressor failure. My contractor told me he has another evolution that just did the same thing but most are okay at 3 years. There is obviously a problem with this unit.

  12. I am a Heating and Air contractor and have install many Evolution systems with very little problem. Sounds like many of these problem is from faulty installations but at time a component will fail like on any other thing that is made by man. Un like the auto industry when a conponent fails labor is not included in the warranty unless you op for an extended labor warranty that can be purchased, or talk you installer in giving you a free extended labor warranty. I give a free no cost two year labor warranty with all int equipment that I install. How many new cars are bought and not have something go wrong in the first three years? Get a good respectable contractor to install you equipment.

  13. This is for any Bryant contractor:
I’m thinking about installing Bryant Evolution 286BNA036 2 stage, 2.5 ton heat pump: 16.5 SEER, 13 EER, 9.5 HSPF Variable Speed Blower, 2 stage Puron Heat Pump with Evolution Control System with Bryant programable thermostat. Of course 10 year parts , 10 year compressor and two(2) year labor warrenty.
Price does not include duct sealing or testing, but I will have that done. Price quoted does not include about $3300.00 Fed, OR State and Bryant rebates
Price quoted is: $7500.00 for southern Oregon.
Is that a fair price?? I like the contractor, will check out his references. I believe 50% of the project success is the quality and integrity of the contractor. I can check out the contractor, I need help with the quote price. I believe it is a fair price.
Thanks to any and all Bryant contractors who reply.

  14. This meesage is for Jim in Oregon, I am having the same equipment installed except it is 3.0 ton and the quote for it is 6,800.00. I live in Georgia, after the rebates of 2,500 my final will be 4,300.00.
